My Handy Man

Our house is only 8 years old but there are so many projects that we have done, and still more that I would like to do!
Matt has become quite the handyman--he is our
plumber
painter
electrician
heavy lifter
arborist
gardener
carpenter
media man
and our resident computer geek.

Here are a few of pictures of our house projects over the last year.

Well, you know what they always say? Behind every great man there's a great woman! I wish that I could claim that title, but I have to give the credit to Mom. She has been here for almost every house project. Thanks Mom!

Truth is, we couldn't do it without the help of so many. Here are a couple of our work teams:

FLOOR TEAM: May 2007

Charlie, Joyce, Joe, Benjamin, Matt, Mom, Sarah and Lynn

DECK TEAM: July 2008
Vernon, Matt, Mom, Lynn & Joe

4th of July at Lone Star Park

Mom, Matt and I celebrated the Fourth of July together at Lone Star Park.
We worked hard on our deck all day but made it just in time for the last race (and still got a great place to stand at the finish line!). Since we didn't get to place our official bets, we bet among ourselves. Mom's horse #7 was in the lead for 3/4 of the race, then my horse #4 took the lead, but in the end Matt's horse #5 won with a photo finish. And when Matt's female Jockey threw her goggles into the crowd, he caught them!
After the race we spread our blankets on the nearby lawn and enjoyed a spectacular fireworks show.

Our New Roof

In April we had a huge hail storm (see HAIL!! blog). We didn't recognize any immediate damage, but later we found out that our roof had been totaled! We noticed the roof "gravel" in our gutters and downspouts, called our insurance agent and he immediately gave us a check to replace it.
All of the house in our neighborhood have the same color shingle, but we chose a shade darker - I like the contrast.

We hired Tucan Roofing to get the job done. After an extended wait (because there were so many damaged roofs in the area) they got our house done. It only took and day and a half to tear off the old shingles and felt paper, inspect the decking and re-roof it. We were happy with their communication and customer service and they did an exceptional job of cleaning up after they finished.

The Deck is complete

Finally the deck is finished! Matt worked on the stairs today. Like most days of July in Texas -- it was hot! In an attempt to even out his farmer tan, Matt decided to work with his shirt off. To his credit, he said that he sprayed some sunscreen on but obviously missed a large area!

Okay--weak stomachs--do not scroll to the next two pictures!

OUR NEW DECK!

Okay, so most people enjoyed their Fourth of July weekend at the lake, grilling out, relaxing but NO, not us. We built a deck. With lots of help from Mom, Joe and Vernon we have a brand new outdoor area to enjoy!

Just a few more stairs to go...
